Oh yeah...
Mar. 4th, 2009 06:57 pmI solicited questions in honor of National Question Month.
uoggb asked: "If you could choose any musical instrument (just one) that you would be proficient at, what would that be and why?"
I answered bassoon because it makes a beautiful noise and is fun to play.
He revised the question to be an instrument I have NOT played.
So, my new answer would be Bass Guitar.
I love bass lines. Many moons ago when I tried my hand at composing, I mainly worked with bass lines for a stringed double bass and a light drum beat to go with a jazz number for a musical I was helping to write. Bass guitar is similar to me. I've been told by others the easiest way to learn to play Bass is to dig out a Joy division album and play along.
Really though, I just love bass lines and bass clef. Much like Limbo, I tend to think music should involve "How low can you go?"

I'm falling behind again
Nov. 9th, 2008 10:53 pmI have 6 comments to answer, a Facebook letter from someone I haven't talked to in 10 years, and a comment on my high school alumni message board that demands a prompt reply.
But you know what? I spent 6 hours lugging wine, candy, chips and other various and sundry snack foods to the back of the store. I'm a lot tired. Everything can wait until tomorrow after work, or after my afterwork nap, depending. I also still have to finish cleaning my bathroom, which at this point is just waiting on me to get a cloth to wipe the cleaner off.
So, yeah, if you commented here in the past 24 hours, I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you.
And tomorrow...
I have to put it all back.
Plus I won't have a real register for several hours, since they're upgrading mine to Windows XP.
On the bright side, Ra'Shel, in a fit of niceness burned me a copy of Collective Soul's eponymous album from 1995, which was one of the best albums I ever owned. I have no idea what ever became of my old copy, but I now have a new copy to enjoy.

Music help
Mar. 16th, 2008 11:27 pmOk, I have two songs I keep hearing on the radio that I can't find titles for, and one of those I can't even give you artist or general era.
The first one I'm pretty sure is Dame Elton John and the chorus is something about the New York Times saying G-d is dead...
The second song I want to say is late 70's early 80's. Lyrics are something about you're crying now. BUT...it has an awesome sax riff.
Any clue, music people?

Anyone want to go to King's Island 8-8-05?
Jul. 5th, 2005 03:03 pmCome, be a glamwhore with me
One hell of a line up. I just need my Aquanet.
EDIT: Doesn't list the lineup other than the headliners.
It's Cinderella, Ratt, Quiet Riot, and Firehouse.
EDIT:edit:
Oh yeah, there's this too. AOL has free video of LIVE 8, minus the commentary and commercials. Selevt by City, band and song. Been enjoying the hell out of Floyd with Waters singing again.

Since a few people have died on here, I decided to be an LJ lemming and follow them to my untimely demise. I have asked for an open casket so you can say it to my face.
In the meantime, I had a great night at work filled with more Disco and 80's era rap than you can shake a stick at. Young MC anyone?

Brett Michaels is a f***ing redneck.
Jun. 27th, 2002 01:15 amWell,
lotussilverfire and Jason and I went to the big Glam Rock show at Polaris this evening, featuring Faster Pussycat, Winger, Cinderella, and Poison. I beleve Miss Lotus has a few stories of her own to tell, mainly since my brother and my bitch sis-in-law met us there, but what the hey...
First, We got there at 6:30 and missed the 25 minute Faster Pussycat set. According to Lisa, my sis-in-law, they played 5 songs and sucked. She also entioned that they are now a Goth band, and their lead singer took his pants off.
Then came Winger. After they started playing, yes, I realized I knew some of their music. I shall now go back to trying to forget it. C'mon, 4 guitars and drums? The highlight of the set was my brother making up his own dance for "She's only 17".
It was also during Winger that we began noticing plot lines in the surrounding crowd. Like Glam Boy. He wore a denim jacket, torn spandex shirt and more make-up that Tammy Faye Bakker. Through the course of the concert, he provided us with entertainment. Like dancing and licking his fingers, making out with a girl who promply left in the arms of another man, and then fighting with both the girl and the other man. We also had tye- die and baldy, who were about the only people cheering Kip Winger on. And how can I forget Warrant Boy and Sweaty Teddy? They were four rows down from us making devil hons and trying to get women to come to them. Warrant Boy was kind of cute though.
So after Winger finishes, we go get $5 brats and $3.75 16 oz Cokes. Kind of like being at King's Island without the roller coasters.
Cinderella comes out. Now, I love Cinderella, as does my sis-in-law. The only problem is that their lead singer is doing his damndest to be Steven Tyler. But they played my faves, so it was all good.
I go hit the bathroom as soon as the last chords of "Shake Me" end. (Side note, Erin had never heard them before and kept asking why all their songs had "me" in the title.)
So, Poison comes on finally. Um, how many covers do they do now? I counted 5. Before they play "Something to Believe In", Brett dedicates it to all the 9-11 families. I can sorta understand that, but he continued with this really long flag waving speech with more expletives than I can count. Thus why he's a redneck. CeCe sang one song and he spoke very little. Thank Gods above and below for that. Bobby Dahl is getting cute in his old age. And Rikki Rocket played his drum solo. After his solo though, he grabbed this guy backstage and told us he wanted to introduce him. I thouught Rikki was going to come out for a sec. But no, it was they guy who built his drum kit. So they tear through their hits, and Jason dances like a white band on Soul Train. I got more laughs watching him than any of my bro's stupidity.
One last thing...I almost felt like I was at a mullet convention around some of these people. Fear the mullet.
So, we had fun. Tomorrow is LARP, with Good Chris playing Tremere. *shudder*

The concert was cool, the music was good, other than the sound guy fucking the vocals to hell. My problems, as always, centered on my anti-social behavior. I don't know what it is, I just don't feel comfortable in enclosed venues when there are bunches of people around. That and my poor gaydar went on the fritz, which led to a fun conversation with a certain vocalist about "beards". But hey, said vocalist is allegedly going to try to find me another date. And there was this one guy who looked like a thinner version of David Boreanez. I thought my tongue was going to hit the ground.
And yes, I felt like a groupie afterwards, since Miss Erin and I sat around drinking with the band. Yes, I'm not trying to get in ANY of their collective pants, but still...
And after we left, we hit White Castle. Theory being we're going to have hangovers tomorrow (today) anyway, so what difference is a few sliders going to make?
