Since I know a few of you have kids...
What would you recommend for an 8 year old boy who's into football and a 12 year old girl who last I heard loved horses?

Date: 2008-12-01 06:20 am (UTC)For the 12 yr old, there are a few things I can think of. If she's into Barbie there's Barbie and Tawny, Horse styling head. Maybe a paint by numbers artwork or what I've found that my girls enjoyed are those foil scrap sets that come in either silver or copper like this one
I hope this helps *hugs*

One of my friends wrote a contribution for it. It's mostly stories/anecdotes but if your niece ever does get into riding it has a bit of practical advice and care tips too.
For him, snatch up Bakugan if you can find any. The ones Scott got for his nephew are now going for double, even triple what he paid for them a few months ago on Craiglist and Ebay.

Date: 2008-12-02 04:05 am (UTC)My friend SJ has loads of them. Some of hers are hand painted, and very valuable. Not necessarily hand painted in natural colors either. She has one that was done in like a sparkly midnight blue with black accents. She says that the ones that have the best potential to be collectible are ones from Peter Stone or from Breyer. I'd suggest the bigger size.. that is about 12 inches by 10 inches. That's an industry standard. There's another smaller size that's about um.. 3 or 4 inches high I think. But at 12, she might prefer one that she can get her hand around and just do stuff with. It'll have more detail too.
The Breyer horses are more affordable. I found some on Amazon that you can look at. http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1228189797/ref=sr_pg_2?ie=UTF8&rs=165793011&keywords=breyers%20horse&rh=n%3A165793011%2Ck%3Abreyers%20horse&page=2 She says you can also find them on Ebay.
Barring that, if the Breyer horses are all out of range, you might look at picking up a used horse or a cheapy somewhere and find someone (or do it yourself if you're artsy enough) and give it a nice custom paint job. You know, like make an appaloosa with flames on it's butt instead of spots or something. hahaha...
8 year old boy into football? beats me. I never had a boy and have no interest in football either. I'd say that you might need to know what team he likes. you could get him a jersey or something like that... or a helmet with his team's logo. Make him WANT to play safe! haha.

I wish they were more geeky, so I could get them something fun, like Pokemon cards.
