Inserting advertising circulars into Brown Publishing Co. newspapers for $4.15 an hour. Not only was it hotter than hell in the press room, my mostly elderly colleagues were some of the shittiest people I've ever had the displeasure to work with. I honestly hope their grandchildren let them rot in the home.

Yeah I know I should respect my elders, but I learned quickly that some old folks are total asshats. My first time as a CNA in training, I was avoiding the slow hands of an 86 year old closet case...

Press room people are FREAKS. Witness, my uncle Brent. I think it's a result of too much heat and noise. But now, we don't have a press room and I kind of miss that thundering hum. I don't miss the old meanies, though.

Not that the editorial, advertising and graphics departments are much better as a whole, but some of the more interesting characters that have come and gone over the years have had excellent entertainment value.

They no longer use the big presses that reduced my hearing more than any concert I ever went to? That's kind of sad.

And yes, the folks not in the nice part of the paper do make for entertainment on the cheap:)
