I'm trying hard to figure out what the big deal is about loofas, squeegies, and liquid soap. I mean, really. I grew up using either Dial or Ivory bar soap. And I've been using them for about 32 years now. Really, I always assumed the liquid soap/squeege method of bathing was for the femme females, the ones who enjoy smelling a bit like a fruit salad covered in honey and milk. You know, kind of a personal "I am Goddess, hear me ROAR" moment for the generation that prefers showers over Calgon baths.

The problem being I've been noticing the trend is catching on with men of my aquaintence now. Mind you, [livejournal.com profile] adagiogray and John aren't exactly pillars of masculinity, but my friend Eddie is fairly butch and I know he had one of those heating clay facial masks. Or my suite mate in college, who played on the Basketball team.

I mean really, my only truely fru-fru bath product is my shampoo, and that's only because I hate the scent of what mom used to call "the green stuff" like Pert and Prell. And I know NO ONE will be smelling my hair that I don't want to, so I can live with an apple shampoo and orange conditioner. And I'll admit to using [livejournal.com profile] stewicked's apricot exfoliant on occasion during the winter when my skin dried out.

I dunno, I guess I'm trying to figure out if switching to a new bathing system is will irrepably damage my self image as a fairly masculine person. I mean I never say I'm str8-acting (I'm not. And generally the folks who say that are also closet cases, and therefore not worth my effort), but I also don't want to come off as SuperFemme the Nelly AVENGER!

Yeah I know, this is the stupidest post I've made in a while.

I hear ya. Every winter, my skin dries out like no one's business. kind of wondering if the liquid soap moisturizes better or not now.

It's like pampering yourself in the shower. It's a nice thing to do for your body and your senses to maybe help de-stress a bit :) They also have more masculine scents besides just the flowers and fruit that are more feminine. Hell, smelling nice because of that is probably better (and easier on others' noses) than what most men do and bathe in their cologne. They do have manly scents out there, too. :) No worries about that if you ever do want to try it. And the whole loofah/sponge thing and stuff helps slough-en off dead skin cells (exfoliate) so that your skin is healthier and all that jaz. If any of that helped, cool. LOL! :)

Yeah, I've noticed a big growth in the Men's bath product industry. Mind you, most of it seems geared towards either the metros or the guy who thinks he's a jock, but...

Eh, Ras uses body wash and facial scrubbing pads to wash his face. Then again, most guys I've been involved with have also, though it's never been something that was an issue or even talked about.

Boy did they smell nice though! ;o}

I got my boyfriend to switch to the liquid/loofa, he seems to like it better just because the loofa does a little better with scrubbing the scum off of him. We use the same soap but it's pretty mild, just some oatmeal stuff.

Out of curiousity, what exactly does oatmeal do for skin, other than filling a love with a desire to coat you in brown sugar?

Heh umm, it's supposed to 'lock in moisture' or something, but really we got it because the smell isn't girly or manly.

Thanks for the heads up on prices. I really wasn't pricing the stuff out as much as wondering when the liquid took over. Then I found a 2 pack of dial for $1 over in the discount lane:)

John's sister in law works for Dollar General. I'll have to ask her Tuesday.

LOL. Jim has always been a liquid soap guy. I think his mother got him hooked on it. Me? I like a nice bar soap. I alternate between Lever 2000 and Trader Joe's Teatree Soap.

I've used the Lever before. It's usually the cheapest at the store. I dunno, I was looking at the new manly liquid soap and pondering, which is what set this off.

I like to think I'm fairly masculine and I love pleasant smelling body washes and shampoo's. I just don't use the poofy thing that chicks use.

Does it work ok with just hands or a washcloth then?

This is true. I may have to get a loofa, or just find some non-pomegranate doap to take to John's. Maybe I'll get some of that Old Spice stuff Bruce Campbell is hawking now:)

Scott uses that stuff and I can attest it does smell awesome and not frilly at all. Plus it gets the grease off him after a long day of stacking semi tractors better than bar soap, although for some days he has to break out the GoJo which has a nice orange scent even if it does have pumice in it.

The mental image I just had involved beard stubble on your soles.

Not sure how that makes me feel.
