Oh yeah...

I solicited questions in honor of National Question Month.

[livejournal.com profile] uoggb asked: "If you could choose any musical instrument (just one) that you would be proficient at, what would that be and why?"

I answered bassoon because it makes a beautiful noise and is fun to play.

He revised the question to be an instrument I have NOT played.

So, my new answer would be Bass Guitar.

I love bass lines. Many moons ago when I tried my hand at composing, I mainly worked with bass lines for a stringed double bass and a light drum beat to go with a jazz number for a musical I was helping to write. Bass guitar is similar to me. I've been told by others the easiest way to learn to play Bass is to dig out a Joy division album and play along.

Really though, I just love bass lines and bass clef. Much like Limbo, I tend to think music should involve "How low can you go?"

I love bass lines, myself. I played glockenspiel in band (don't ask, I dropped out in seventh grade) and given my druthers I would have been a drummer... but bass guitar just does it for me. Particularly White Zombie/Rob Zombie tunes.

I have a scaled-down electric bass sitting in the closet that I still need to take to Wolfie's to teach me to play, but as with most leisure pursuits, I never have enough time.

Oh, and I like viola (thouth I'm violinist myself). I do it ONLY BECAUSE OF 'DO'-STRING in down!!!! Wow, its the same with me.
When I play it, I understand what 'nirvana' means. ))))

I tried both viola and violin when trying out band/orchestra instruments way back in the day. Really had issues with keeping either steady under my chin.

Now Cello and Double Bass weren't that bad. Still a little shaky with the bow though.

I'm more of a vocalist than a musician these days. My mother, however, taught music for 40 years or so, so she made sure my brother and I got to try every instrument we wanted to before letting us choose what we wanted to play in school band.

I actually wound up playing trombone for a few years, but I really never quite mastered it.

I really liked the second one you linked here.

And oops, I swear I knew that at one point. Was half awake when posting.

Synth bass being a keyboard of some kind vs an electric bass?
