I should be in bed.
Edit: I should learn better than to type rants at 3AM. Edited this damn thing so many times now I may cry.
Problem is I've been up all night pondering how I should vote Tuesday. I'm sure most of you longtime readers are aware of where my sympathies lie politically (I really am a moderate, I swear. Problem being gay rights issues tend to make everyone think I'm out there with Ted Kennedy.)
So, just for fun, I'm going to put everything behind a cut and see if my trolling catches anything.
Politics and current issues in general.
Forgive me for saying this, but I have the feeling no matter who wins in November, we're gonna get a Carter-style administration. Which is to say Congress is gonna keep the President on a short leash. Given the backlash against the Nixonion power grab by the current exec branch.. Then again, the Dems have been really big pussies about this since they got elected in to fix it. All I can assume is that they're hoping to win the office this year and let their guy fuck the country like Bush did. I mean seriously, apart from foriegn policy (which my personal view is "Bush is a total failure"), I though Bush's original promise was to run the US like a business with his MBA degree. Which is why the budget's fucked. Seriously. I guess the 2009 budget is supposed to freeze funding on programs Bush doesn't like, but still has major deficit spending. I'd love to know what MBA program teaches you to spend like that. I don't think Republicans are in any position to claim Fiscal conservatism anymore. Not that Dems ever could. I'd love to see a non-fringe candidate with a serious shot at a nom stand up and say "We're gonna cut spending. We're not gonna cherry pick. Either everything takes cuts or nothing takes cuts."
And since I've moved to MO, I've had to listen to just about everyone on all sides of the immigration distraction. That's all it really is. If we really cared, we'd kick the Cubans out of Florida and the Asians out of the Pacific coast/Hawaii. And what truly amuses me is that we sent most of our jobs to Mexico, and yet they all want to come here. More proof our jobs suck.
Hillary Clinton
I hate myself for admitting it, but I'm probably going to end up voting for her on Tuesday. Not because I really like her, but mainly because I know she's already done the job for 8 years and I have a good idea of what to expect.
That and I want to hear all about her shoving cigars up a male intern's ass.
Barack Obama
Seriously. This guy really seems to not have much in the way of a backbone. It really is like Carter in '76. Not even one term in the Senate. And he's endorsed by Oprah, which is a huge strike against him. (Yes, I dislike Oprah. But then, I'm mostly anti-trendy.)
Mike Huckabee
*laughter* Yeah right. I only hope he wins the Republican nomination. If only because sane Americans will turn out in droves to make sure he loses.
Mitt Romney
I have no problem with his Mormonism. And given his rather moderate record in Massachusetts, I worry less about him getting the nomination. Only problem is everything I've ever heard him talk about leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don't like him as a person, and I don't think I could vote for him.
John McCain
Anyone else amused that one of the Keeting 5 is running on a reform/fiscal platform?
Things you have to believe to be a Republican today:
Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.
Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.
The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing UN resolutions against Iraq.
A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multinational corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.
Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.
The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.
If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.
A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our longtime allies, then demand their cooperation and money.
Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care to all Americans is socialism.
HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.
Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.
A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense.
A president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.
Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.
The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.
Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness, and you need our prayers for your recovery.
You support states' rights, which means Attorney General John Ashcroft can tell states what local voter initiatives they have the right to adopt.
What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.
And I'll finish this off with 2 serious things.
1) I really hate both major parties at the moment and wish to G-d there was a worthwhile candidate in the running. (And yes, I'm including Ron Paul in that statement. No that's not an endorsement of Ron Paul. Ron Paul scares the piss out of me, but thankfully, he's like Howard Dean in 2004 or Snakes on a Plane in 2006.)
2) As a corollary, I wish to G-d, Cazic, and Cthulhu the states could all do primaries/caucuses the same fucking day. The current system sucks ass. Candidates that might actually be worth voting for get eliminated before a majority of the country gets to vote for them. So fuck the system.

I know why I hate McCain, I'm just curious why everyone else hates him at Hillary-esque levels.
See, the thing with marriage for me has less to do with religious views and more to do with the benefits that the governement hands married folks. Either take away all government sponsered marriage, or extend it to everyone. If a church doesn't want to perform the ceremony, that's their right. Also, I'd like to believe that the 10th amendment could justify NOT amending the federal constitution to block states from allowing marriage if they so choose.
I've noticed that I'm getting more fiscally conservative the older I get. thus my comment about wanting candidates willing to slash everything equally rather than slashing some programs while rapidly expanding others.
And while I know a few people seem to think I'm anti-military, I'm really not. If it hadn't been for the military, I'd not have been born.

I'm all for getting the government out of marriage completely, including any and all benefits.
As for fiscal conservatism, the moment I started paying taxes I realize I didn't like it. I don't want them to slash everything...just most things. And I don't want it replaced by more, but there are some things that should be funded by the government, primarily the military. I'm cool with NASA, interstate highways I'm mixed on, energy I'm mixed on...but thats about it. I would be willing to compromise on other things such as education, health care, welfare, and a few others, but with a great reduction on costs.
